1349 Biography

1349 is AURAL HELLFIRE.  That has been – and continues to be – the primary concept of 1349 since the band first rose from the ashes of Alvheim in 1997.  The core of 1349 – Ravn (vocals & drums), Tjalve (guitars), Seidemann (bass) – added Archaon (guitars) in 1999. In the spring of 2000, 1349 decided to record a new promo showcasing the new material, and Frost of Satyricon was asked to lay down the drum tracks to get the speed required. By early 2001, the band felt they had enough songs for a full-length album, entitled “Liberation”. Upon hearing this material, Frost was so impressed that he asked to become a permanent member of the band. Thus the line-up for 1349 was fully realized.

Recorded and mixed at Gordon Studios, “Liberation” blended old school soundscapes with warp-speed hysteria. 1349 signed with Candlelight Records in 2003 and released their debut full-length album in April 2003, then marched unstoppably forwards with the following releases “Beyond the Apocalypse” in 2004 and “Hellfire” in 2005.

1349 had already toured across Europe by 2006 – a monumental year which saw the band make its first appearance in North America opening for reunited metal legends Celtic Frost. In that same year guitarist and founding member Tjalve left in 1349 in order to focus his musical efforts on his band Pantheon I. Although the band utilized guest musicians when called for on subsequent tours, the core lineup of 1349 has remained the same since Tjavle’s departure.

In 2009, 1349 unleashed a quite different monster upon the unsuspecting masses, and “Revelations of the Black Flame” saw 1349 return to Studio Nyhagen with Tom Gabriel Warrior co-mixing the album along with Ravn. Released May 25th, 2009 on Candlelight Records, “Revelations…” saw 1349 explore the slower, darker and more ambient side of black metal, while still retaining the spirit of AURAL HELLFIRE. An even deeper darkness was added to the sphere of 1349…

2010 was a year when 1349 changed labels and partnered with Indie Recordings to unleash “DEMONOIR”, filled to the brim with abysmal darkness and hellish energy. This release showed that the band was perfectly capable at blending a deeper and more sinister darkness with extreme intensity and venomous aggression, further proof of the band’s innovative take on Black Metal.

1349 toured extensively behind “DEMONOIR” from 2010 to 2012, bringing AURAL HELLFIRE to Worldwide masses as part of both unique touring packages as well as high profile festival appearances.

In the fall of 2013, 1349 set out to record its most ambitious album ever, a recording that would redefine their unique brand of AURAL HELLFIRE.  This recording will be released this September, entitled “Massive Cauldron of Chaos”.  A 7” single, entitled “Slaves”, was released in April, and the band toured with Behemoth and Goatwhore as part of the 2014 “Metal Alliance Tour” across North America.

Major events for 1349 will be announced as 2014 unfolds, which will make this a banner year for the band.  Despite the continual evolution of the band, one thing will remain uncompromised and unchanged – 1349 is AURAL HELLFIRE.
